Food philosophy

We don’t do frozen and we don’t do fake. If it’s not in season, you won’t find it on the menu. Wherever possible, we ensure the produce we use in our food is free-range and sustainable, and we always look to support local producers whose passion for what they raise and grow is evident in its quality.

Our food philosophy is pretty straight forward. It’s all about getting the best quality ingredients and letting them speak for themselves through beautiful, simple, flavoursome food.

The following deserve a special mention:
+ Bhimtal Free Range Chickens

Raised on hormone & antibiotic free grain, these chickens are slaughtered at 60 days (battery chickens are slaughtered at 45) to ensure healthy, natural development.

+ Loch Duart Scottish Salmon

This was the 1st fishery to be awarded the RSPCA Freedom Food accreditation & is widely regarded to be the best farmed salmon in the world.

+ Oceanwise farmed Kabeljou/dusky Kob

Our kabeljou is the only farmed, sustainable linefish in the country. This unique and world class product is farmed in PE. Oceanwise pioneered the culture of Dusky Kob otherwise known as Kabeljou in South Africa
Dusky Kob farmed on land has been listed as a GREEN best choice by WWF-SASSI (South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative). Oceanwise Kob is thus a preferred choice to the environmentally conscious consumer.

Our cream is home-made by a bona fide West country lady now living in the Cape… and all ice-cream is made on the premises . Our local cheeses are award winning.
